In the past three years, Rosie has performed over 120 gigs as a vibraphonist-singer in all sorts of spaces–bars, restaurants, music venues, farmers markets, assisted living facilities, weddings… it’s a long list! Through her experiences, she’s put together a specific skillset (that wasn’t taught to her in school) comprised of musical, business, marketing, and live sound related knowledge to successfully perform in a variety of settings as a vibraphonist-singer. Because if you are like Rosie, your musical training taught you how to play in the concert hall, and that was pretty much it. Some come join Rosie to learn about how to take your mallet + voice music (or any other music you play) out and about!
12:00–1:00 pm – Session 2 with Valerie Naranjo: Session Topic TBA
1:00–4:00 pm – Afternoon Break – Lunch, personal practice, collaboration, or hang time with other Attendee and Presenting Artists

Brian released his debut album in May 2023 titled “Marimba Cabaret,” which features beautiful arrangements of show tunes and pop songs reimagined for marimba, voice, and drums. Along the way, he encountered many questions he didn’t know the answers to, like: How do I obtain a mechanical license to record a cover song? What’s the difference between mixing and mastering? How do I distribute this music to streaming platforms? Along with many more questions! So instead of keeping everything he learned all to himself, he will be sharing what he learned from the album making journey in the hopes it will assist other mallet + voice musicians in creating and sharing their projects with the world.

10:30–12:30 pm – Session 4 with a Lee Hinkle: Interpreting the Page
Preparing music written for the combination of mallets and voice presents different challenges than preparing a piece purely for mallets, because there are multiple components to consider. You not only have emote through your playing, but also through your voice. And the vocal part often has a text associated with it that needs to be performed clearly. Through his masterclass, Lee will work through some different strategies for how to successfully learn and combine these different elements.
